A long ago piece I wove for my mom…

Set a spell…rock with me…we just may share some Understanding…a great Sunset…or shift the Paradigm

“Me and my mother at my father’s funeral. He wasn’t assassinated because he said he wanted his children to be judged “by the content of their character.”
He was gunned down because he was courageous and strategically working to dismantle racism, poverty and militarism. He was speaking truth to power about the Vietnam War, about economic injustice + racial injustice, about ‘The Other America,’ about the violence of the U.S. government.
Today, people who don’t want the truth shared about these things are using one quote (from a speech that my father gave about injustice and his dream that we’ve eradicated injustice, including racism) to ban honest history, under the guise of banning #CRT.
But banning CRT, which many who are zealous about banning don’t fully understand, isn’t actually the goal. Instead, books about freedom and freedom fighters, including my father, who was a nonviolent warrior, are being banned. And teaching on racism is being banned.
Truth about the past and the continual fight for justice and freedom is only a threat if a person considers the freedom of others bondage for them. Transparency about how racism and white supremacy have devastated and continue to devastate is necessary for humanity.
Misuse of a murdered man (who was then among the most hated men in America by white supremacists for talking about and doing something about what many want us to shut up about today) for the benefit of banning even him is unconscionable.
We must teach our children the truth about history and about what we must do now to conquer hate and injustice. We must do that at home, in school, via books and art, etc.
Anyone unwilling to do so cannot humanely claim concern for hurting white children as a reason.
Black children are human.
Brown children are human.
Racism is destroying the world that all children live in.
And if adults are not courageous enough to confront it, what are we teaching our children?
What are we leaving our children?
Finally, what is the intentional focus on CRT distracting those who have fallen prey to the fear mongering from really focusing on?
What’s not being corrected when history is not being taught correctly?

In these Days of Liars, fools, and global Pimps who believe they have another planet on which to maintain their status quo…
“Above all, don’t lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky

“One of my favorite poems from Lawrence Ferlinghetti–poet, publisher, and proprieter of the beloved CIty LIghts bookstore in San Francisco–who died yesterday at age 101.”

So, queridos, ¿Qué tal hoy? How’s your day going thus far? Now, I had just a couple of minutes, so I was responding to the post I put up on the pods that a city in Germany is using to help the homeless, and I was pondering the responses in the U.S. (illegal to give food to the homeless in some places…spikes on park benches to ensure no one sleeps on them…etc) and…as I am wont to do…the thoughts that encircle many of our days as we have spent the last how long in a dual pandemic of Covid and Fallacious Construct.
So here it is…my stream of consciousness for this morning. Soy Yo.
And We are all One – all of us needing to practice. xoxox
The reality appears to be that many places across the globe have done much forward thinking. In the U.S., there are so many folks with workable ideas, well-thought out.
Unfortunately, we – the U.S. citizens ( most) – do NOT value are artisans, our future thinkers (and btw, our future is NOW. This is action time.), our current thinkers – credible ones where their track record and actions now toward collectively practicing ONEness – the real kind, on-the-ground kind, is visible and interactive.
The crowd is loud…that swath of people who have spent their lives learning how to yell the loudest…be the bully…to make your Self heard…to be able to stand your ground…and yet choose to not hear other, rational, honest voices. So, I’m telling you this:
I. SEE. YOU. WE. HEAR. YOU. Most of us are there, have been there, or are about to be there where you are in some manner. Let’s look across at each other – y’know…horizontally? Laterally?
WE. ARE. NOT. EACH. OTHERS’. ENEMY. I’d really like you to get that. What freakin magic power do you think the everyday humans have on this ‘side’ that is the ‘opposite’ of you, somehow ‘out to get you or take your shit’ kind of people. For real?! We get our clock cleaned the same way you do. How come you can’t believe that? Is it because different spins are used for different people? C’mon, like, light up, pal, and listen up.
All the Big Players have been and are constantly creating stories – I called it creating/building constructs – like making a building with Lies for mortar. They use their underlings – and make no mistake – the guys on talk radio and TV – they ARE underlings. Otherwise (paying attention still?) just how do you think they could say the same thing at the same time on all the shows in exactly the same way? Just observing, y’know?
You keep lookin’ at me when I try to explain even half a Reality – the for real kind
and
what I keep – even now – after ALL the credible evidence of virtually ZERO ZILCH fraud – getting back from you and those CROOKED SEDITIOUS PLAYED-YOU-LIKE-A-FINE-GUITAR and for at least 8 years guys –
is the
SAME
OLD
TIRED
REGURGITATION of what they fed you! Man, that food really sticks to your ribs, eh?
And then…! You guys go and storm the freakin capitol, like – wow – just how finely they must have tuned you – the instrument of your own destruction they made you into and now take no credit for having done so. They disowned you like a borrowed red-headed stepchild – hard and fast – dropped you right on your pointed hatted head. Hello? Still listening? Did you know the 49ers bought an English Premier League Soccer team? (ah, still with me…)
Hear the rhythms of your own growing up
If you grew up rural, well BFD
If you grew up city, well BFD
Take those rhythms of the beauty, music, good times and bring them here
I’ll pick up an instrument and we share our music
Another group can wrench to the rhythm of an engine when she purrs
Or revs aggressively like a Cheetah with an extra set of lungs.
And then there’s recipes…I mean, do you see where I’m going with this? Honest-to-God? And am I pissed at you? Oh yeah. Let’s not get it twisted. I’m pissed because you refuse to even look at anything other than your proscribed media – all else is crap. Shit, guys, it’s like you were given, believe, and use a new Bible, for Christ’s sake! For Christ’s sake…ah, yeah. Sure.
So yeah, that’s it for this episode from the Could-possibly-be-full-of-shit-department-but-come-ready-to-debate-discuss-if-you-think-so.
Beginning won’t be easy for any of us. But, practice leaving your ego, your religion, and your biases at the door. No worries: no one wants to pick up your baggage. We all have our own and it can be very heavy.
Until next time

Just keep the little propagandapersusions in mind…

Yes, yes, my erudite, used-to-be-Rock n Roll, Country, R&B, Soul, Doo-Wop, Surfing, you name it…Individuations of the End-of-WWII Celebration – you could call it, home coming…
…yesterday, we were better.
We loved more – liked more even; gave the other guy a break; cut each other some slack.
…yesterday, we were better.
We were better during those years
That Vietnam tore our loved ones from our lives
At the behest of Powermongers’ wet dreams.
Their old armchairs have worn out
Thanks to so many Fake Patriot ventures.
GM Lies for Breakfast
Fast Food Frankenfood for Lunch and sometimes dinner.
Lies sprinkled like Jimmies across the top of our Ice Cream existences.
And we loved them; still do.
It’s so much better to eat what tastes good
Than what’s good for you
Better yet
Good for all of us.
What’s that?!
The Collective instinct has all but been bred out of us. Listen to the Decades:
Then the 60s…the 70s…we did better.
We made mistakes…but we did things together to make things better.
We stood up. Yes, yes. Brave. Passionate. We had leaders then.
Seems they had to die. The Truth is not allowed to be dug out
Dug up…
Spoken.
The 80s…wow.
Many of us can chronicle our lives by the Music
Across the decades we sang…
And then we stopped.
Sat down
Got scared
got ailments
Got scared
So we – some of us – turned on Fox News
You know…
helps to have an entity to validate our Fears
Give us things and folks to blame
And drop kick us Jesus through the goalposts of Life.
*****************
Now, just take it easy.
I know all the stories and narratives and the good we do.
I also know what we’ve been and done
How we’ve changed every decade we’ve lived through
Working together – collectively – oooh, bad word.
Judgment has become just the trendiest thing
Separation the ‘In Thing’ –
especially if they’re those ‘Others.’
Now, ‘Separation’ is in large part achieved.
‘Social Distancing’ is now not only okay
But an Order.
So what happens now,
my Baby Boomer colleagues?
Will – can – we
change another Decade
For the Good?
For the movement
Through the Paradigm Shift?
Will we stand up
Drop the Fear
And pick up Change?
We have to, you know.
And when the evening yields to night
we have two choices:
Pre-serve the Planet – for us, our kids, grandkids
Continue the way it is
Lies upon Lies
Pollution upon pollution
Manipulation/PropagandaPersuasion
Watch the Words!!!
It’s Time. We know what to do.
I’ve not heard of David Swanson before, so I’ll be doing ever more research (because it’s part of who I am – yes, yes 🙂 – and shall get back to you in due time. Please, feel free to do your own and offer your reasoned (psst: reasoned) opinion.
“Someday, George, there’ll be a Fascist global society run by the corporations and the Oligarchs, with the severely religious as both their watchdogs and their propaganda pulpits. Then, we’ll both be right: We shall see that all take place in the created reality between Distraction and Force.” (imagined conversation between Huxley and Orwell – coulda happened…)

And a fine Tuesday morning to you from here on the porch. It’s been raining quite a bit these last weeks, and when it does, it’s hard to imagine something like water becoming a scarce commodity – and a commodity is how most corporations involved in the taking of our water see this precious and life-sustaining resource. Reading the CEO of Nestle (amongst others) state that water is not a God-given right for humans, but instead, a commodity to be, in his calcified mind and hardened heart, privatized, monetized, and used for profit, I just have to shake my head and wonder at what point he decided the rest of us weren’t human enough to deserve water. Currently, the corporations dealing in buying up water are doing just that. In Nestle’s case, they rape California waters on a regular basis, and corporations will buy and drain the waters in villages across the globe, leaving the local residents just poop out of luck. Somehow, now, that just doesn’t seem right…or even close to human, doing that. I call it Profit-at-any-Cost.
Nevertheless, what I observe – and have over the years – and, as a kid growing up in a big city, is that the only place we really see water is out of the tap; or the fire hydrant, where having the wrench that opened the hydrant in the summer meant a/you were the most popular adult in the street; b/no one told the cops who had the wrench; c/and, as an adult, you could make the best dang spray for the neighborhood kids by pushing your butt back against the open hydrant. But, unless a water main broke, most of us – or I imagine you – ever thought about water and its complexities.
Then, in school, I took classes on Water. I learned about rivers and river systems; water wars (for instance, the ongoing one involving Georgia, Florida, and Alabama), or the one known a bit more widely, all the issues with Water in Southern California and the Southwest. After even more classes on the topic, my thinking about Water began to be clearer…and more worrying in a way. Now, as Droughts become more frequent, and I sadly watch what is happening in Australia, where the Big Drought has been going on for years, and the nation-state doesn’t seem to have addressed the issue much – and certainly not listened to indigenous wisdoms, I realize that here in the United States, most of us have no clue.
No clue, you might say? You know all about water, yes? Are you aware of how many underground aquifers are going dry? What the difference is between water underground that is nearer the surface as opposed to deep aquifers? Have you noticed, if you live in a big city, how so much of the underground systems are crumbling? Of course, most of us know – at least, peripherally – places like Flint, Michigan. There are many more than just Flint, believe me. What I think, is that most of us don’t even think about any of it, as long as our water comes out of the tap. Those like myself, who are on a well, have different issues to keep track of. But, even with wells, most of us – as long as the well pumps and the water comes – don’t give it too much of a thought, at least around these parts.
So, I thought I’d take this week to, just maybe, think about water in our lives, how it is around your neck of the woods, eh? How’s your water? What is it (well, city water, etc.)? I’d sure be interested. Since all water is local, each of us might have a story to share. In the meantime, I’m headed to the kitchen to heat up some water in my kettle and make another cup of coffee. Join me? Water is a fascinating conversation, I assure you. Until then, from the porch, I bid you a mellow day.
